Come with me as I explore Madame Tussauds Blackpool for the first time as an October half term treat...

On what could quite possibly have been the worst weather day of the year so far, I spent the day with some of the biggest celebrities of our generation.

And despite getting soaked, me and my three children aged four, five and six loved the opportunity to get up close and personal with stars at Madame Tussauds in Blackpool.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve experienced a lot of firsts. And I’m embarrassed to say this was also the first time I’d ever visited the famous waxworks.

My two oldest children were excited to meet some of their heroes. For my little girl Taylor Swift stole the show and for my little boy seeing The Hulk, Ironman and Spiderman up-close absolutely made his day.

Madame Tussauds is situated close to Central Pier and offers an intriguing and light-hearted afternoon of fun. It was the perfect place to visit in the rain and by the scores of people booked in before we arrived many others had shared the same thought.

As we made our way down the red carpet, we were met by Alison Hammond - the likeness the artists had managed to achieve was uncanny.

After our obligatory pictures in front of the green screen were keen to explore this new world.

And what better way to start than celebrating the world of Strictly Come Dancing? The waxworks of Claudia Winkleman, Tess Daly and Craig Revel Horwood were mesmerising.

I don’t know what I was expecting but I was really taken aback at just how lifelike the waxworks were.

It was great to see The Traitors winner Alan Carr proudly standing in his green traitor cloak and for an extra special picture opportunity guests can also try on their very own cloak and pose next to him.

Next we walked through the I’m a Celebrity! Get Me Out of Here Now! jungle and got up close with Ant and Dec before trying out the famous rope bridge.

What struck me the most was how small many of the celebrities were. At not an incredibly tall 5ft 7ins, I was taller than most of the life-like waxworks.

David Attenborough, Bear Grylls, ET were also great crowd pleasers.

In the sporting icons section Blackpool FC’s great Stanley Matthews greeted visitors before they go on to meet a plethora of icons including Mo Farah and Lewis Hamilton.

Barbara Winsor, Joanna Lumley, Bruce Forsyth and Morecambe and Wise also led visitors down a path of TV from yesteryear.

The Marvel section was a huge hit and the section my little boy enjoyed the most. The interactive displays and sound effects make the waxworks a fun and engaging place for little ones to explore.

But for me I’ve got to say stepping onto the Coronation Street cobbles was the best bit.

As a big soap fan getting to see David Platt, Jack and Vera Duckworth, Bett Lynch as well as Deirdre and Ken Barlow as we walked through the attraction’s very own serving Rovers Return was a real treat.

Next we explored the decades of musicians and saw Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Shirley Bassey. Before getting up-close with Beyonce, Amanda Holden, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
