'We can confirm...' - Lytham Coastguard message after battling high tides and strong winds from Storm Boelo
Wet weather and rising tides prompted concerns about public safety.
Lytham Coastguard has carried out a patrol along the Fylde Coast after strong winds, wet weather and rising tides prompted concerns about public safety.
The team headed out along the coastline after seeing several people out and about during Saturday evening’s high tide. The patrol aimed to ensure people were keeping safe around the water as challenging conditions continued along the coast.
In an update, Lytham Coastguard said most people were acting sensibly, respecting restrictions and keeping their distance from the sea. However, the team did have to speak to a couple of people whose behaviour raised concerns and explain the potential consequences of their actions. The coastguard did not specify what the individuals had been doing.

Patrol from St Anne’s to Cleveleys
The patrol began in St Anne’s and continued north to Cleveleys, allowing the team to observe how sea conditions varied along different parts of the coastline. Lytham Coastguard said it was particularly interesting to see how beach terrain and sea defences influenced the behaviour of the water in different locations.
During the patrol, the team also stopped to speak with Beach Patrol, discussing various aspects of water safety. The update comes as strong winds and high tides continue to affect the Fylde Coast, with coastal users being reminded of the importance of keeping a safe distance from the water and respecting access restrictions.
Despite the challenging weather, the coastguard said it remained fascinated by the power of the sea. “We'll never stop being mesmerised by the sea and her powers,” the team said.
