'I took my son to see Blackpool's Western Train and he loved it'

“Myself and my son were there yesterday. The lights are lovely.”

The famous Western Train has made a special appearance as part of Blackpool’s Lightpool Festival, which is continuing until next Saturday. Renovations to the train took place over summer and were completed recently.

Blackpool’s residents have reacted positively to the Western Train’s return, although some have argued that the exhibit should have been made to run.

One resident said: “A sad sight to see the Western Train as a static exhibit instead of running up and down the Promenade! I hope they had the good sense to put it back into the Starr Gate Depot for safe keeping during the storms.

A visitor to the town reminisced: “I recently stayed in Blackpool for an extra 3 weeks because I wanted to ride a tram from when I was a youngster, but I still love the place. One mum kindly said: “Myself and my son were there yesterday. The lights are lovely.”

Another person argued that the vintage trams are better than their modern counterparts: “Get rid of the modern trams and bring back the heritage trams especially the lit ones at night, and scrap the led lights. Bring back the traditional ones, they were the most popular and drew massive crowds from all over.”

One person added: “I hope they will be carrying passengers next year,” and another man said: “These heritage trams should be out earning money, not stood static or sold abroad. They are Blackpool at the end of the day.”
