Roof blown off iconic bar The New Philly in Blackpool as Storm Boelo continues to cause chaos

‘It’s an absolute nightmare’.

The roof has blown off one of Blackpool’s most popular bars as Storm Boelo continues to batter the Fylde coast.

The roof of the New Philly, on Foxhall Road, has been partially blown off by the winds. In 2020, the New Philly’s roof has suffered damage in the past; in 2020, the bar suffered major damage and was forced into a long-term closure during Storm Ciara.

The owner of the New Philly announced the news on Facebook. She said: “ I got a phone call from one of our neighbours saying you need to get yourself to the New Philly now.

I don't think we're going to be opening today .We're removing the front gate because that does look like it's going to blow. This is the second time it’s gone off now. What an absolute nightmare. The fire brigade have come down so we’re going to close the road now.

Storm Boelo has caused chaos across the country. Blackpool Zoo and the North Pier have both been forced to close, the Pleasure Beach is open but all major rides are shut, and there have been widespread power outages and road blockages.

There has also been damage to some of the Illuminations, as well as damage to flagpoles and signs across the coast.
