Why I think this half term would be a fab time to drink in the views at Blackpool’s most iconic venue, The Tower Top...
It’s the most iconic building in Blackpool and stands at more than 518 feet tall.
But it s a building as a local you’re forgiven for taking for granted.
Thousands of visitors each year head to Blackpool to ascend the world famous Blackpool Tower.

Growing up in Blackpool, the tower was somewhere me and my family visited regularly. I could often be found bouncing around Jungle Jim’s with my cousins on a Sunday afternoon. And as an adult I’ve attended hundreds of events in the marvellous Tower Ballroom.
But last week when I was asked when was the last time I had been to the top of the tower, I honestly couldn’t remember ever doing so.
So on the mild Autumn weekend just gone, me and my three little ones aged four, five and six did just that. My children absolutely love the Tower and were thrilled at the prospect of getting to go all the way to the top.
Our first stop was a the 4D cinema experience, which reminded me of the cinematic attractions at Disneyland. Armed with our 4D glasses we took our positions in the cinema and were taken on a magical tour across the resort.
The children loved trying to catch the seagull as it flew across the sea splashing water at us as it did so (the wind and water effects are brilliant).

The clever film made you feel like you swooping over the resort and it even included a ride on the terrifying first drop of the Big One at Pleasure Beach Resort and a flyover the Isle of Man.
As the film finished and we took off our glasses the children were beaming from ear to ear and full of excitement of how they almost caught the ‘naughty seagull’.

Next was for the main attraction - a chance to see Blackpool from a unique perspective in the Tower Top.
We joined the queue of hundreds of visitors and it was soon our chance to ride the famous lift which takes just 69 seconds to get you to the top.
Staff at the attraction were super friendly and informative and helped keep the busy queues constantly moving.
As soon as we stepped out of the lift my breath was taken away. The view is clearly unrivalled.

I thought I might have to coax the children on to the glass floor platform but I need not have worried. All but was one - the youngest - was straight on, with their nose to the floor shouting “people look like ants from up here”.
The atmosphere at the top of the tower was lovely and relaxed. Some were even enjoying a beer as they soaked up the views.
People were super friendly and helping each other to spot the resort’s famous landmarks and buildings.
The children loved the chance to explore the different levels and even had the chance to step outside.

This was a perfect way to spend some quality time with the family and lucky for us it is right on our doorstep.
Anyone with an FY postcode can also get up to 50% off all attractions, all year round. All you need to do to claim the discount is click on the local section of the Blackpool Tower website here and enter your postcode and the site will do the rest.
