Fylde Hockey Club round-up: Sixths show their mettle despite a one-sided scoreline
The sixths were the only Fylde Hockey Club team in action last weekend.
Fylde Hockey Club’s sixths were beaten 9-1 by Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern Development in a rearranged North West Women’s Division Five North (Central) game on Saturday.
Off the back of Storm Austen and with Storm Boelo looming, Fylde travelled to Westholme School for what proved to be a challenging away fixture.
Although the result went against them, the scoreline certainly didn’t tell the full story as the Fylde squad put in a fantastic performance against a rather experienced opposition.
Despite finding themselves 6-0 down by half-time, the Fylde team refused to be disheartened.
Recognising the effort they had already put in, they returned to the pitch determined to keep competing and make their mark on the game.
Their hard work paid off in the 66th minute when Techari Taylor found the back of the net with a fantastic goal on her debut.
Fylde also came close to adding to their tally, with Winnie van Rijn creating two great opportunities that didn’t find the back of the net.
While facing an experienced side in challenging conditions was never going to be easy, Fylde displayed plenty of grit, commitment and team spirit as every player gave their all until the final whistle.
