Plea for help to make crown green bowling at Fleetwood Memorial Park inclusive for all

“We’re going to change that”

Blackpool and Wyre Crown Green Bowling Academy is opening a brand new facility at Fleetwood Memorial Park - but they need your help to make it inclusive.

They have secured £4,000 in match funding from Sport England but it can only be unlocked if the same amount is raised through Crowdfunder.

They want it to be an accessible, year‑round bowling hub where people of all abilities can take part in crown green bowling.

To achieve that, they need to make essential alterations to the pavilion so it can be used comfortably throughout every season.

A spokesperson said on their Facebook page: “It’s been a long journey, but we’re nearly there — and now we’re asking for your help with something truly important.

“We want to make crown green bowling fully accessible for everyone including people with disabilities.

“Many can already enjoy flat and indoor bowling with adapted equipment… but crown green bowling has been left behind.

“We’re going to change that.

“To do it, we need specialised equipment so children, adults, and wheelchair users can take part safely, confidently, and with dignity.

“This isn’t just about sport — it’s about belonging, joy, fresh air, friendship, and giving people a chance to be part of something.”

The pavilion at the park has been unused for four years - its doors closed and the bowling greens barely used outside the winter month.

But now it has a new lease of life and it will be the permanent home of Blackpool and Wyre Crown Green Bowling. The green will be open to everyone and people of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy crown green bowling in a fabulous environment.
