Major council update on jetty smashed in Storm Boelo havoc
The jetty suffered major damage when high winds and rough waters snapped the structure in two on Sunday.
Lytham Jetty has been closed to the public after a section of the structure was washed away during Storm Boelo, Fylde Council has confirmed.
Floating debris has been spotted in and around the jetty, posing potential risks to watercraft and wildlife. Fylde Council has now surveyed the structure, taking the decision to close the jetty until further notice.
A spokesperson for the council explained: The damage was surveyed this morning and the Council has taken the decision to close the jetty while the remaining structure is made safe.

“Barriers are in place and we are asking people to stay away from the jetty and the surrounding area for their own safety. The Council is working closely with Ribble Cruising Club and Lytham St Annes RNLI to make sure everyone who uses the jetty and the water nearby is aware of the closure and any risks.
“A contractor is being appointed to carry out remedial works. Once the full extent of the damage has been assessed, we will share more information about the repairs and how long the jetty is likely to remain closed.
“Anyone who spots debris on the beach or in the water should not attempt to move it and should report it to the Council by email at [email protected] or by phone on 01253 658658. In an emergency on the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
