Blackpool admission made on bodies returning after recent cameos away to Reading

Blackpool were able to welcome both Jordan Brown and Ilmari Niskanen back to action at the weekend.

Ian Evatt is hopeful of welcoming more bodies back to the Blackpool squad over the next few weeks - while also keeping what he’s currently got.

Injuries have plagued the 44-year-old since his appointment as Seasiders head coach last October, with his options left thin on several occasions.

Last week’s 2-1 defeat away to Barnsley saw Evatt handed two fresh casualties to deal with.

A serious knee issue for CJ Hamilton will see the wing-back miss the next 10-12 weeks, while George Honeyman won’t be available until the other side of the upcoming international break due to a calf problem.

In more positive news, the Blackpool boss was able to welcome two players back to action off the bench in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Reading at the Select Cars Leasing Stadium.

Jordan Brown had been missing since last month’s League One opener against Wycombe Wanderers, with the midfielder suffering a seizure in the fixture.

After recovering from a spell in hospital, and successfully undergoing all the relevant tests, the midfielder was passed fit to return to the matchday squad for the trip to Berkshire.

He was joined by Ilmari Niskanen - who was able to return after recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered on his Seasiders debut away to Grimsby Town at the beginning of August.

After welcoming two key figures back, Evatt is excited by the prospect of having his options boosted further over the next few weeks.

“It was good to get them both back,” he said.

“We’ve of course lost CJ (Hamilton) and George (Honeyman), which is one in, one out with us, it always has been since I’ve been here, so it’s frustrating.

“The biggest thing for me is, we re-energise and refresh the group this week to get ready to put in a performance that looks like the team we’re creating on Saturday.

“We’re a couple of weeks from getting four or five back to us. We’ve got two home games in the next two weeks, with clear weeks, so for us, there’s no excuses to get back to the levels we’ve been at this season.”
