'Levels dropped' - Ian Evatt issues immediate reaction to Blackpool's defeat to Reading
Blackpool were defeated 3-1 by Reading at the Select Cars Leasing Stadium.
Ian Evatt was left disappointed by the way Blackpool’s intensity dipped in their 3-1 defeat away to Reading.
After assisting George Earthy for the Royals’ opener, Kyreece Lisbie bagged one of his own after the break to double the lead at the Select Cars Leasing Stadium.
Leighton Clarkson did pull one back for the Seasiders, but that was followed by the Berkshire outfit’s third through substitute Jacob Brown.
“It’s been a gruelling week, and I felt that showed with our performance,” Evatt said.
“We lacked the same energy and intensity that we’ve been playing with, and when we dip below those levels it becomes very difficult.
“We had a lot of control in the game but it was all possession with no purpose, it was all one speed until we scored.
“The difference is, when we scored, it was 2-0 and not 1-0. Obviously the last goal gives it a false reflection given how many bodies we were throwing forward.
“For me, we dipped under our intensity and energy levels, and that showed.
“Wednesday (against Barnsley) hurt, we put so much into it. We also played Saturday, and Reading didn’t. It’s been a tough week.
“I’m not making excuses, but I’m trying to make sense why the energy levels dropped.
“We had a four hour trip back from Barnsley on Wednesday, and then a really tight turnaround with a long journey to Reading. Players just weren’t themselves - I could sense it, I could feel it.
“We’ve had some injuries again, and some players returning and finding full fitness. That’s the reason in my head because that’s not like this group of players and what I’ve seen so far.
“The biggest thing for me was the speed of the team, it was very one paced; when we had a lot of energy and high intensity.”
