‘This is not the future of Blackpool’- residents react to motorhome site plans

‘This is not the future of the heart of Blackpool Town centre.’

New proposals have emerged for a dedicated motorhome park on the Blackpool Central site, with those backing the plans saying it would provide a ‘massive boost’ for the town’s tourism.

Under the controversial new plans, the under-used central lot would be transformed into a dedicated, high-spec Central Motorhome and Campervan amenity, usually referred to as an Aire.

There has been an intense debate over the future of the site in recent weeks, with many across the town favouring plans for a new 20,000 seat arena instead.

Residents from across Blackpool have had their say on the motorhome plans. One man questioned: “Why would you want to bring a camper van to Blackpool? I would be heading for the countryside with nice views, what are you getting there? A view of some rundown hotels, coral island and the back of the sea life centre.”

Another concerned resident added: “A caravan park? Outrageous. An arena would bring more tourism and visitors to Blackpool.”

A few locals suggested their own ideas for the future of the site. One person suggested: “Multi activity centres i.e. indoor bowls , rock climbing and archery could all share the space quite easily.”

One Blackpool resident added: “To be honest a motor home park just isn’t practical there… Why not put something like a snow experience or flight simulator or even a swimming pool or even multiple activities there. Something everyone can enjoy.”

Generally, most residents didn’t seem keen on the idea. One man said: “This is the kind of silly idea I can see happening. There are already thousands of rooms to stay in, in the area. An arena would be able to have events that would have the town rammed 12 months of the year.”

One person described the plans as an ‘eyesore’, and another suggested that ‘This is not the future of the heart of Blackpool Town centre.’

One man concluded: “Well it doesn't sound idiotic but I'll explain it in detail. The hotels around that area would go out of business which therefore makes it really stupid and we've gone from 300million to this.”
