Five water fountains are in place in towns across Wyre where you can re-fill for free

Residents, visitors and four-legged companions are all invited to make use of the new refill stations by bringing a reusable water bottle or pop out bowl.

Five water bottle filling station are now in place in towns where people can fill up for free.

The initiative has been supported through successful funding bids to the Sea Changers Coastal Fountain Fund, alongside direct investment from the council, helping to improve access to free drinking water while tackling single-use plastic waste.

The first fountains are located outside Danfo toilet facilities with the first being installed in 2025 at the Marine Hall, Fleetwood following a successful application to the Sea Changers Coastal Fountain Fund 2025. Building on this achievement, the council secured a second round of funding to install a further water refill fountain at the Knott End Ferry earlier this year.

In addition, Wyre Council has purchased and installed three further refill fountains at Garstang High Street Car Park, North Promenade toilets in Cleveleys and Wyre Estuary Country Park, ensuring water fountains are located at areas popular with residents and visitors across the borough.

The new fountains are expected to deliver a range of environmental benefits, with the primary aim of reducing reliance on single-use plastic bottles. By making it easier for people to refill reusable bottles while out and about, the scheme will help reduce litter in local communities and along the coast, supporting the protection of wildlife and sensitive habitats.

The fountains will also play an important role in building resilience to warmer weather by helping people stay hydrated. Whether cycling along the Wyre Way, walking at Wyre Estuary Country Park, enjoying the promenade in Fleetwood or Cleveleys, or starting a journey from Garstang, residents and visitors will have greater access to drinking water across the borough.

The network of refill stations will also benefit council staff and volunteers who work outdoors throughout Wyre, particularly during the warmer months, providing convenient access to drinking water while carrying out their duties.

Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces said: "We are delighted to expand access to free drinking water across Wyre through the installation of these new refill fountains. Not only do they help reduce the use of single-use plastics and support our environmental ambitions, but they also encourage residents, visitors, staff and volunteers to stay hydrated while enjoying everything our borough has to offer."

Residents, visitors and four-legged companions are all invited to make use of the new refill stations by bringing a reusable water bottle or pop out bowl.

Users are advised that signage is currently being installed and may not yet be in place at all locations. Most fountains are situated on Danfo toilet buildings and may not be immediately visible from a distance.

By choosing to refill rather than purchase bottled water, everyone can help reduce waste and play a part in keeping Wyre's coastline, countryside and public spaces clean for now and future generations.
