Ian Evatt examines turnaround for Blackpool star - as he shares what he wants next

Blackpool drew 2-2 with Bromley at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.

Josh Bowler has enjoyed a big turnaround over the past 12 months during his third stint with Blackpool.

The 27-year-old left Bloomfield Road as a hero and an exciting property back in 2022, but a move to Nottingham Forest never worked out.

In his three years at the City Ground, he never got an opportunity to feature for the East Midlands outfit, and was instead sent out on five separate loan spells.

These stints included a second stay with the Seasiders, alongside moves to the likes of Preston North End and Cardiff City - with none of them proving to be a success.

It looked as if his permanent return to Blackpool last September was going to go the same way after a tough start to the season, but things have started to work out since.

After initially being tried in a more central role under Ian Evatt last term, Bowler is now back out wide, and is embracing new responsibilities as part of a wing-back system.

“He’s a case in point,” the Seasiders head coach said after Saturday afternoon’s 2-2 draw with Bromley.

“Josh Bowler last season when I took over was devoid of any confidence and he probably wasn’t the fittest player he could be - and I think he’ll be the first to share that.

“His attitude and mindset from the first day of pre-season was: ‘Right, I’m going to make a difference, and be that guy. I’ll get myself in better shape, and my attitude towards my out-of-possession work is going to completely change.’

“He’s been first class. The only thing I’ll say is, I expect so much of him because he’s so good, I just need him to give me that last bit.

“We get him there so often as a team, and we need him to produce and create - which I know he will.”
