Ian Evatt issues immediate reaction to Blackpool's 'self-inflicted' draw with Bromley
Blackpool drew 2-2 with Bromley at Bloomfield Road.
Ian Evatt was left frustrated by Blackpool’s display against Bromley - as the visitors came from behind twice in the 2-2 draw.
Albie Morgan put the Seasiders ahead in the opening exchanges; only for Victor Adeboyejo to swiftly equalise.
The home side retook the lead through Tom Bloxham at the end of the first half, before being pegged back once again, with JJ McKiernan levelling after the break.
“It was frustrating,” Evatt said.
“There’s a lot of frustration - not towards the opposition and not to the referee; although we could have some complaints.
“It was more self-inflicted. We have to be better at dealing with physicality. Unfortunately we can’t recruit 6’5 physically dominant players who are really technical or have speed, so we have to choose a style and identity, and be brave enough to deal with physicality, before showing moments of our own quality.
“We looked a bit fearful of the physicality of them. This league isn’t the Championship, we can’t have every game being technical. Loads of teams in this league play that style, and we have to get better at dealing with it quickly because it’s been a problem for a long time.
“We had enough moments today and there was enough ball in the final third to have scored more goals, so it was frustrating. We need to be tighter and cleaner with our work, that was the biggest disappointment, because that’s our domain and what we want to be.
“The two times we played football in the first half, we scored. In the second half, there was loads more of that, but when we got there, we didn’t have enough quality to find that last pass.
“All is not lost, it’s very early days. We feel disappointed, but that’s the standards we are setting ourselves. This team isn’t the finished article, you don’t go from being bottom of the league to top in a year - it’s a journey and it’s progression. I do feel like we’re doing that.”
