Former Blackpool, Middlesbrough and Norwich City figure returns to former club

James Husband has joined Doncaster Rovers as a free agent following the conclusion of his contract with Blackpool.

Former Blackpool captain James Husband has made the move to Doncaster Rovers as a free agent.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the experienced defender would depart Bloomfield Road at the conclusion of his contract this summer.

The 32-year-old initially joined the Seasiders on loan from Norwich City in 2019, before the move was made permanent.

Across a seven-and-a-half season stint on the Fylde Coast, he made 238 appearances in total - during which time he scored five goals and provided 13 assists.

His highlights in Tangerine include the League One play-off final meeting with Lincoln City in 2021, where he started at centre back in the 2-1 victory at Wembley.

Husband will now return to where his senior career first started - Doncaster.

After being handed his debut for the South Yorkshire outfit in 2012, he made a total of 73 outings for the Red and White Army before departing for Middlesbrough.

On the back of his Seasiders exit, Husband shared a farewell message to the Bloomfield Road faithful via the club’s official channels.

“I cannot thank everyone at Blackpool Football Club enough for the last seven years,” he wrote.

“I've met some truly special people and made friends for life on and off the pitch during my time at this special football club. Some of the best memories in my career have come at Blackpool from the Play-Off Final win over Lincoln City in 2021 to the derby victories at Bloomfield Road.

“Blackpool has been my home for the last seven years and to have made nearly 250 appearances for this great club is something I'm immensely proud of. I wish the staff, players and fans the very best in what I hope is a bright and successful future.”
