Blackpool defender answers contract question - with 11 players in the same boat

Blackpool have 11 players inside the final year of their contracts at Bloomfield Road.

Olly Casey admits he’s not being distracted by any long-term contract talks - with his full focus on his football with Blackpool.

The centre back had a one-year option activated to keep him at Bloomfield Road for the 2026/27 campaign, but that does mean he’s now in the final 12 months of his current terms.

Since making the move to the Fylde Coast from Leeds United in 2021, the 25-year-old has developed into a strong defensive option in Tangerine, making 149 appearances for the club throughout his time so far.

Casey isn’t the only player the Seasiders will need to open contract talks with at the end of the current season.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Andy Lyons, CJ Hamilton, Albie Morgan and Hayden Coulson are all also inside the final year of their deals.

Meanwhile, Zac Ashworth, George Honeyman, Josh Bowler, Niall Ennis and Luke Southwood are in the same boat but with 12-month options.

Despite having a big decision to make at the end of the campaign, Casey isn’t being distracted from anything other than picking up three points on a Saturday at the moment.

“For me it’s just head down and concentrate on the football,” he said.

“I’ll let the football do the talking, and let my agent and the club sort it out. For me, I’m not thinking about that.”

Casey has been the central figure in Blackpool’s back line in the opening month of the campaign, with Jordan Williams and Josh Earl featuring either side of him in recent weeks.

“I’m more comfortable in the middle of a back three,” he added.

“Obviously, I can play on the sides too - I’m just happy if I’m playing. It’s just about keeping my own consistency no matter who I am playing with.

“I know with whoever comes in next to me, we have quality players, so it’s about keeping my own consistency and driving others around me.”
