The star of Benidorm, Coronation Street and a host of other top TV shows fell in love with the area after being invited to love to the Lytham area by the late Bobby Ball, who was a long-time dear friend.

“I’ve lived all around the country in my time but living in Fylde is really so special,” said Sherrie.

“There is so much to love about it - Lytham Hall, the wonderful independent shops and restaurants. It’s so beautiful and the people are lovely.

“It’s great to be so close to Blackpool too and that is a very special place or me. I love the Tower and the Grand Theatre and fondly remember when all the local theatres were packed out through the season.

“I was in Russ Abbot’s Madhouse at the North Pier back in 1992 and remember the long queues of people lining up to get in every night.

“Blackpool has such a special atmosphere and holds such wonderful memories.”

Sherrie starred as Joyce Temple-Savage in ITV’s Benidorm and has been featuring as the much-loved character in a series of Benidorm shows held at various local venues in recent months.

On December 14, she brings a Benidorm Christmas Extravaganza to Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

Along with a festive theme, music from the Four Tops and several tribute acts, it will see her reunited with the Benidorm character Kenneth, played by Tony Maudsley, a current star of Coronation Street, in which Sherrie featured as Maureen Holdsworth in the 1990s.

“It’s going to be a wonderful night - with lots of fun and festive cheer and it will be great to be alongside Kenneth again,” said Sherrie.

Another festive highlight to which Sherrie is looking forward is having a skate on the ice rink returning to Lytham from later this month.

Sherrie originates from Nottingham, as do star skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and the three of them actually trained together in their home city when they were younger.

“I’m a little older than Jayne and Chris but I look back fondly on those days and am really looking forward to making the most of Lytham having an ice rink again,” she said.
