Nelly Mulligans ordered to remove signs and flags by Blackpool Council over planning consent breach

Principal Planner Johnson decided that the flags would be ‘unnecessary and excessive advertisement clutter’ and ‘out of keeping with the area’.

Nelly Mulligans has suffered a signage setback after being ordered to remove a number of illuminated flags hanging off the building by Blackpool Council.

An application to install 10 externally illuminated A3 poster cases, 14 x window vinyls, 8 externally illuminated flags, 3 x internally illuminated fascia signs, 3 non illuminated fascia signs, 1x high level non illuminated fascia sign and 2 externally illuminated hanging signs, was lodged to the council earlier this summer.

Last week, Blackpool Council decided to grant permission for all of the proposed signs, except from the flags. Principal Planner Johnson decided that the flags are ‘unnecessary and excessive advertisement clutter’ and ‘out of keeping with the area’.

But because the flags had already been installed, they will now need to be removed. There are also a number of lamps and LED signs which are on display outside the premises which do not have planning consent, and Blackpool Council’s Planning Enforcement Team will be sent to investigate.

Nelly Mulligans has been open since September 25, taking over the former Brannigans venue after it closed earlier this year. It is open seven days a week and boasts live entertainment and sports.
