'Win that battle' - Blackpool boss opens up on HYROX preparation for his squad
Blackpool have tried a number of different things throughout their pre-season schedule so far.
Blackpool embraced a different form of training last week as part of their pre-season preparations.
HYROX has become a popular fitness trend in recent times, combining running and gym workouts.
The Seasiders squad embraced a session last week, but for head coach Ian Evatt, it was an exercise that was about building mental resilience as well as offering a physical benefit.
“I think most of them enjoyed it,” he said.
“It’s nice to be challenged in different ways. Football is a huge mental test. For me, 70 to 75 percent is psychological, and you have to get over the barriers you’re going to face.
“When you face challenges during the season, it’s about finding that inner belief and resolve to go again, and kick on.
“I believe everything is you against you, and you’ve got to make sure you win that battle. That’s part of winning that process.”
Following Blackpool’s 2-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park, Evatt admitted it was important to get everyone in his squad up to speed in time for the EFL Cup first round opener away to Grimsby Town on August 8, with any minor injuries in the meantime just being part of that process.
“We’re obviously really light on numbers,” he stated.
“I’m never one to accept losing, and I’m certainly not accepting that today, but fortunately for us it’s a loss when it doesn’t matter.
“Our job is to make sure we’re ready for Grimsby in the cup and then Wycombe at home - this is a part of that process.
“We’re disappointed to lose the game of course, but as with everything, there’s always context.
“The players who are available, and are fit and healthy, have got some more minutes - which is valuable. Obviously we’ve got players out, but none of them are serious. Our job is to make sure everyone in the squad is healthy and available for that first game against Grimsby. It’s what we’re on course to do.”
