“Everybody plays a big part”: AFC Fylde boss hails the collective effort shown by Mill Farm squad

AFC Fylde look to make it three straight home league wins on Friday evening.

Craig Mahon has challenged his AFC Fylde players to back up midweek victory as they get set for a swift return to action.

The Coasters entertain Hornchurch on Friday, three days on from beating Hartlepool United 3-1 at Mill Farm.

Three goals in the last 13 minutes made it back-to-back home league wins for Fylde’s players, who remained seventh in the National League table.

Hornchurch dropped to 13th following defeat to Yeovil Town on Tuesday, their third loss in four league games.

Speaking after Tuesday’s win, Fylde’s head coach told club media: “I said to the lads, it’s great this result - especially after Saturday (the 4-0 loss at Boreham Wood) - but it means nothing unless you back it up on Friday.

“Hornchurch will be a tough outfit to play against and it’s a quick turnaround for us, so we’ve got to make sure that we do the right things over the next 48 hours, recovery-wise.

“Myself and the staff will look at the analysis side of it, try to give the lads the detail that they need and by Friday night I’m sure the lads will be looking for another three points.”

Having trailed after only three minutes against Hartlepool, the Coasters levelled through Luke McCormick before substitutes Millar Matthews-Lewis and Jack Morris found the net.

Mahon added: “The lads who started the game put so much effort in and then the lads who came on were able to finish it off for us.

“That shows the quality and that shows what this group is all about.

“We’re not individuals, we’re not people being selfish; it’s a collective, it’s a club and I’m so happy for everybody.

“Whether you start the game or finish the game, everybody plays a big part.”
