We have no idea how these kittens ended up on the M55 motorway... it's heartbreaking
“Losing Moira and Alexis was heartbreaking, but we're delighted that David is thriving and giving us all something to smile about."
Three tiny kittens discovered on the M55 motorway have captured hearts after a remarkable rescue story that began under the most mysterious of circumstances.
Around a week ago, a litter of three very young kittens was taken to a veterinary practice after being found on the busy motorway. How they ended up there remains a complete mystery, with no clues as to their origins or how they survived in such a dangerous location.
Because Homeward Bound Animal Rescue works closely with several veterinary practices to help abandoned and injured animals, the charity was contacted to see if it could take the kittens into its care.

The kittens were estimated to be just three weeks old when they were found and were in a poor condition. Their survival depended on finding an experienced hand-rearing foster carer at very short notice. Thankfully, one of the charity's dedicated volunteers stepped forward to provide the round-the-clock care they desperately needed.
Hand-rearing neonatal kittens is one of the most challenging aspects of animal rescue. It requires feeding every few hours, day and night, and even with the very best care, outcomes can be heartbreaking. So fragile were the kittens when they arrived that the charity chose not to share their story publicly at the time. The trio were named Moira, Alexis and David.
Sadly, despite everyone's efforts, Moira and Alexis passed away in the early stages of their care. However, David has continued to grow stronger and is now doing remarkably well. Homeward Bound has shared an adorable photograph of the little survivor, whose progress is bringing joy to the volunteers who fought so hard for him.

While much about the kittens' story remains unknown, David's determination to survive serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of even the smallest animals and the dedication of the people who care for them.
Wendy Mulela, Chair of Trustees and Founder of Homeward Bound Animal Rescue (Charity No. 1179111), said: "We have no idea how these kittens came to be on the M55 motorway, but we're incredibly grateful to everyone involved in getting them to safety.
