“We know the challenge that’s ahead of us”: AFC Fylde get set to tackle unbeaten Boreham Wood

AFC Fylde’s players will face their sternest test of the season this afternoon.

Craig Mahon is excited by the task ahead as AFC Fylde look to do something no team has done yet this season and beat Boreham Wood.

This afternoon sees the Coasters at the National League leaders, who have won 11 and drawn two of their 13 league matches so far.

That sees them seven points clear at the top, with Mahon’s men in seventh after defeating Scunthorpe United in their last league game a fortnight ago.

Having beaten Atherton Collieries in the FA Cup last weekend, Fylde’s head coach told club media: “The lads are in good spirits, it’s been a really good week of training.

“Coming off the back of the FA Cup result, the lads are excited.

“They’re looking forward to the game and they’re relishing the opportunity to play against (the) top of the league (team).

“We know the challenge that’s ahead of us.

“Boreham Wood are where they are for a reason, they’re a fantastic team with a great manager (Luke Garrard), who I’ve got loads of respect for.

“I’m looking forward to putting myself up against someone like Luke.”

Both teams have impressed in the early stages of the season, with Fylde in the last play-off spot after coming up from National League North.

Boreham Wood, for their part, are the division’s top scorers with 34 in 13 matches, while only Kidderminster Harriers (12) have conceded fewer than their 13.

“We’ve gone into every game this year with nothing to lose,” Mahon added.

“We want to go out with our way of playing and I’m sure Boreham Wood are the same.

“They’re a fantastic football team, great to watch, and you can see by the results and the goals they’ve scored, they’ve got some great talent.

“We’re going to go there and do what we need to do. We know it’s going to be tough but it’s 11 v 11.”
