AFC Fylde 5 Atherton Collieries 0: Mahon's men into FA Cup first-round draw

The Coasters progressed to the FA Cup with an emphatic victory over Atherton Collieries.

Craig Mahon made four changes to the side that took all three points from our meeting with Scunthorpe United at Mill Farm last weekend. Pat Boyes, Harvey Broad, Theo Upton and Cedric Main all came in to the fold.

It didn't take long for the Coasters to assert their dominance on the tie, grabbing an opener inside six minutes courtesy of Main, who swept home Greg Olley's low cross from the left, grabbing his first goal on his first start back from injury.

Luca Thomas was keen to join Main on the scoresheet within the next ten minutes and came close to doing so on two particular occasions, though was well denied by Harvey Bardsley in the first instance, before seeing his second attempt deflected behind for a corner.

Fylde keeper Boyes denied Kielen Adams, diving boldly at the striker's feet, before reacting quickly to push Liam Sheppard's strike across goal round the far post.

Bardsley was unable to prevent an almost inevitable second Fylde goal, as another low cross from the left was turned home, seemingly by Main, to double his tally for the afternoon with nine minutes remaining in the half.

Winger Thomas was determined to get on the scoresheet himself and managed to do so before the break, smashing home from point-blank range with four minutes to play before the half-time whistle.

The Coasters rolled into the interval three goals to the good, with clear intent to add to their already impressive tally in the second period.

Two changes were made at the break, as both Luke McCormick and Kyrell Malcolm made debuts from the bench.

It would only take tMcCormick 11 minutes to make his mark, meeting a cross from the left and smashing beyond the Colls keeper.

A fifth was clearly on the agenda and eventually came with 18 minutes to play as Main forced the ball home for his hat-trick.

The Coasters await their first-round opponents, who they will discover in Monday evening's televised draw on TNT Sports 1 at 6pm.
