WATCH: Rare footage from Blackpool's Sequins Nightclub in 1989
This incredibly rare footage shows inside Sequins Nightclub in Blackpool in 1989.
It was taken at a Frenzy event at Sequins in August 1989.
On the cusp of the dance scene when rave paved the way for a new era of music, this brilliant footage shows how Blackpool was way ahead of the game. Steve Williams & Laurent Garnier were at the decks, it was still the 1980s, not quite into the era of the 90s.
The footage was kindly shared to us by DJ Jason Fubar who has worked the club scene in Blackpool for decades.
He said: “What a time to be alive! I became obsessed with Chicago House Music and Acid House as it was a new sound and so raw and exciting, the track on the radio was Steve Silk Hurley - Jack your body! Everyone was hooked, it actually went to numbner 1 on the UK Chart with no promotion or hype by pluggers, just raw energy from the nightclubs around the UK that had introduced this new sound to its dancefloors!
“All of a sudden Blackpool clubs became House Music clubs with Sequins leading the way. Superstar DJs who are now established worldwide icons like Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Sasha were cutting their teeth in places like this.
“The movement in the UK was swift and exciting.”
Thanks to Jason Fubar and Mr Smiths Warrington You Tube channel for sharing the video.
