Dean Snee siad: “This is so so good for the town,” and David Fidler agreed: “Great for Blackpool and the local economy!”

However Barry Probin couldn’t understand why it was being called a ‘multiversity’.

He said: “The definition is ‘a multiversity is a very large, complex university system, this is none of those.

“Why was it not built near the present Blackpool and Fylde College which already has a wide range of degree courses validated by Lancaster University?

“Why build an institution catering for 3000 students and, probably, 500 staff in the middle of the most popular holiday resort in the country.

“When concerns about parking were raised in the early stages the official position was that all users would travel by public transport! The Talbot Gateway developments are definitely enhancing this part of the town - but a multiversity? I wait to be convinced.”

Sarah Hall added: “A living roof would look good and lots of trees would soften the concrete and steel maybe a sculpture to finish it off.”
