'We've been very busy over the last few weeks' - Rescue operations update from Lytham Coastguard
We've been very busy over the last few weeks with our training sessions.”
Lytham Coastguard has been carrying out a series of training sessions over recent weeks to maintain its rescue skills and ensure team members are prepared for a range of challenging situations.
The training has covered several areas of coastguard operations, including rescues from rock groynes, moving stretchers across difficult terrain and carrying out water rescues in more challenging conditions.
The team has also practised different throwing techniques and taken part in timed exercises to see how quickly members can put on their equipment.

As part of the sessions, the coastguard team re-ran water rescue exercises on dry land, allowing members to talk through each stage of the process and ensure they understand the reasons behind their actions.
Sharing an update on its recent activities, Lytham Coastguard said: “Practice makes perfect. We've been very busy over the last few weeks with our training sessions.
“We've discussed how to do rescues from rock groynes, we've practiced caterpillaring a stretcher on tricky terrain, we've done water rescues in some trickier conditions, we've had races to kit up quickly and we've practiced all the different kinds of throwing techniques.
“We've also re-ran the water rescue on dry land so that we can talk through everything and ensure we understand why we're doing what we are. It's so important that we keep our skills up with regular practice sessions and that we cover all topics, even if they're things we don't often deal with.”
The team highlighted the importance of regular practice to keep its skills up to date and ensure members remain prepared for a wide range of incidents, including situations they may encounter less frequently.
