Lift at Blackpool's West Street car park finally opens again - almost six months on
Car park lift needed major repairs after last being available in May - for a single day
The lift at a busy multi-storey car park in Blackpool town centre is finally back in use - almost six months on from when it was last available.
Access to and from the three levels of West Street car park has been restricted to up to six flights of stairs for drivers and their passengers since May 6, when the lift was open for just a single day following earlier mechanical problems.

Blackpool Council, which is responsible for the car park, announced major repairs were required, which covered the whole of the main tourist season.
Signs were placed at the entrance informing drivers of the lift breakdown and suggesting Talbot Road as the nearest multi-storey with working lift facilities, while the council also pointed out that their are many surface level parking spaces across the town centre.

But the left finally reopened in time for the recent main autumn half-term holiday, with a spokesperson for Blackpool Council saying: “The lift is now operational again, following final repairs and testing and no failures, service interruptions, or call-backs had been reported since.”
West Street car park, situated behind Blackpool Town Hall, is just a block away from the Grand Theatre along Corporation Street and also just a short walk from the Promenade and convenient for the Winter Gardens.
It has 177 car parking spaces, with nine blue badge spaces for people with limited mobility.
