Major update on Blackpool town centre car park lift last available for use briefly a month ago
“The lift requires major repairs and we are looking at the options to fix it,” says council.
Today marks a month since the multi-storey car park at Blackpool’s West Street last had its lift in use - and it looks as though it could be some time before it is back in action.
Blackpool Council has confirmed it is looking into options for major repairs required to the elevator at the popular town centre car park which was last restored to use on May 6 - for a single day.

No sooner had an engineer repaired it then, than the following day was out of action again and has been since.
No timescale has been offered for the necessary repairs and in the meantime, drivers and their passengers are faced with climbing up to six flights of stairs to return to their vehicles at the three-storey facility.
Signs at the entrance informing drivers of the lift breakdown suggest Talbot Road as the nearest multi-storey with working lift facilities, while the council has also pointed out that their are many surface level parking spaces across the town centre.

West Street car park, situated behind Blackpool Town Hall, is just a block away from the Grand Theatre along Corporation Street and also just a short walk from the Promenade and convenient for the Winter Gardens.
It has 177 car parking spaces, with nine blue badge spaces for people with limited mobility.
The council has not specified what the exact problem is, just that the lift needs “major repairs”.
