“It’s like we throw in the towel”: Ian Evatt’s blast for Blackpool players after Mansfield Town defeat
Ian Evatt sent a warning to his Blackpool players after their heavy home defeat on Saturday.
Ian Evatt has warned Blackpool’s players that Saturday’s performance against Mansfield Town was wholly unacceptable from his perspective.
The Seasiders were beaten 4-1 at Bloomfield Road, conceding three times in a dismal second-half display after going in level at the break.
Asked how frustrating it was to lose in the manner they did, Blackpool’s head coach said: “It’s hugely frustrating. I’m not only frustrated, I’m angry because I care about this club and that isn’t good enough for what I believe this club should be.
“We’ve accepted mediocrity for too long now. I’ve been here for a year, we’ve conceded too many games like that where, just because things go against us, it’s like we throw in the towel.
“That isn’t me as a person, it certainly isn’t what this football club should stand for and it’s not acceptable.
“We won’t accept it, the players will be made to be aware of what we think about it because we have to be stronger, we have to be mentally tougher.
“Mistakes happen in football but it’s how you react. Too often today we didn’t react the right way.”
Having gone toe to toe with their visitors in the opening 45 minutes, the Seasiders never really recovered after Jordan Williams’ error saw Mansfield retake the lead 10 minutes into the second period.
Evatt added: “At the end of the day, I’ll always take responsibility and do what I can to change things.

“There comes a point where the players have to take responsibility as well.
“When they step over that white line, it’s about the players; the players have to play.
“Second half today, it was such a contrast from the first half and we can’t have that level of inconsistency between two halves of football or two performances.
“It has to maintain something like - and resemble something like - we can produce and we’re used to.
“I’m all for technical mistakes, that happens in football, but when it becomes physical and mental, we have to be stronger than we were second half today.”
