“It’s a great result, great performance”: Midweek victory thrills AFC Fylde head coach
Craig Mahon was delighted with his AFC Fylde squad after they made it 10 goals from two home games in midweek.
A week after beating Peterborough Sports 5-2 at Mill Farm, the Coasters were 5-0 winners against Spennymoor Town on Tuesday.
Jon Ustabasi’s hat-trick, along with Danny Ormerod’s first-minute strike and Dan Jones’ second-half own goal, moved Fylde to within four points of National League North leaders South Shields.
Mahon, whose players also have a game in hand on the pacesetters, told the club’s media team: “It was a perfect performance.
“I know we played these at the start of the season and we had a similar result (October’s 5-0 win) but, today, I thought we were probably even better than then and I thought that was our best performance.
“I’m really happy. It’s a great result, great performance and as I’ve said before, I don’t want to get too high, so we just keep focused, move on to the next one and stay humble.
“I wanted us to start high pace, high intensity and try to – without disrespecting – blow teams out of the park and get in front as quickly as we can.
“Teams know we’re a good footballing team, they know what we’re about and they sometimes sit in a low block – and it can be very difficult to break down when there’s 11 men behind the ball.
“If you score after 30 seconds, they have to come out. They can’t just sit like that all game.”
Fylde have also confirmed that last weekend’s postponed match at Hereford FC has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 17.
