'Only Brett' - Blackpool boss reacts to club legend's milestone birthday celebrations

Brett Ormerod has started his birthday celebrations in an old Blackpool kit.

Blackpool legend Brett Ormerod has donned the famous Tangerine shirt once again as part of his 50th birthday celebrations.

The retired forward, who also played for the likes of Southampton and Wrexham, is a popular figure at Bloomfield Road, having featured for the club twice during his playing career.

In 184 appearances in total, he scored 49 goals and provided 13 in total, and was part of two promotion winning squads in 2001 and 2010 respectively.

To celebrate his upcoming birthday, which comes next month, Ormerod has headed over to Benidorm, with a photo emerging of him wearing an old Blackpool kit with his name and ‘50’ on the back of the shirt.

Responding to his former teammate’s celebrations, current Seasiders boss Ian Evatt said: “I’m worried for him already. I saw the picture of him at the airport, and ‘wow’ was my initial reaction - ‘what are you doing?’

“I wish him a happy birthday of course, but I do fear for him. Who goes to Benidorm for one week in the first place, only Brett could do that. I wish him well; I just hope he takes that kit off pretty quickly.

“We had a team and a squad full of characters. He’s an absolute diamond, and we think the world of Brett, but he’s a bit of a village idiot at times, which is why we love him.

“I didn’t think we’d ever see him in a full kit. He’s looked 50 for about 25 years. I wish him well and hope he has a happy birthday.”
