Blackpool injury update issued as absence of ex-Charlton Athletic man explained

Blackpool suffered a 2-0 defeat to Barrow in their latest pre-season outing.

Albie Morgan became the latest addition to Blackpool’s current injury list for Saturday afternoon’s friendly away to Barrow.

The midfielder, who made the move to Bloomfield Road from Charlton Athletic back in 2023, had started the Seasiders previous warm-up games away to AFC Fylde and Tranmere Rovers, but dropped out for the trip to Holker Street.

Olly Casey, Fraser Horsfall, Michael Ihiekwe, George Honeyman, Leighton Clarkson and Tom Bloxham are the other players who missed the trip to Cumbria, while Dion Charles was forced off in the second half of the 2-0 defeat due to a bruised foot.

Discussing the issue for Morgan, Blackpool boss Ian Evatt said: “Again it was something really minor. It wasn’t muscular. He could’ve played, but there isn’t a need to have that risk at the moment.

“We struggled with availability last season, and the one thing we’re trying to do at the moment is to get the players as robust as possible before the start of the season. This isn’t the start of the season, this is a tool to get the players ready for that.

“We have other tools to get them ready, so there’s no reason to be worried or panic. For me it was a game we could’ve easily won (against Barrow), it was just the small details that let us down, but it’s about the process of making sure we’re ready.

“George (Honeyman) is fine too, we’ll utilise the squad to get more time for other players. One or two might be available for the next game. Everything is going to plan. Players are recovering, and getting fit and healthy behind-the-scenes. Just because you’re not seeing them doesn’t mean they’re not progressing. We’re just trying to mitigate risks.”
