Barrow 2-0 Blackpool: Seasiders defeated in Cumbria as Huddersfield Town loanee exits early
Blackpool suffered a 2-0 defeat to Barrow in their latest pre-season outing.
Blackpool were defeated 2-0 in their latest pre-season friendly away to Barrow at Holker Street.
Rekeem Harper and Innes Cameron were on target either side of half time, in a fixture marking the anniversary of the Bluebird’s first-ever professional game against the Seasiders back in 1901.
Ian Evatt’s side remained low on numbers for their trip to Cumbria. Ablie Morgan became the latest summer absentee before kick off, while Dion Charles was forced to exit in the second half.
The first real chance of the game fell Niall Ennis’ way, with the striker’s effort at the back post clipping the top of the crossbar on its way over.
Shortly after, another opportunity arose for the 27-year-old. This time Andy Lyons played him through on goal, but once again he couldn’t find the finishing touch, pulling his shot wide.
Down the other end, Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s first test came from a George Walker cross, with a touch from Oluchi Nwankwo requiring a save.
Olly Crankshaw proved to be a threat for the home side. After cutting in from the left wing on a couple of occasions, the 27-year-old was able to get shots away, but was unable to find the target either time.
His best chance came after a lapse in concentration from Zac Ashworth, with Peacock-Farrell doing well to recover in order to nullify the threat.
Ahead of the half hour mark, Ben Winterbottom was called into action for the first time, with a couple of saves in quick succession.
A Karoy Anderson shot from the edge box needed pushing away by the ex-AFC Fylde loanee, before Hayden Coulson’s effort on the rebound proved to be catchable.
That was followed by another Peacock-Farrell save, with Crankshaw steering a shot on target after arriving in the middle to meet a ball from Walker.
After keeping Barrow out a couple of times, the Blackpool goalkeeper was at fault for the opener, with a mistake while playing out allowing Harper to beat him one V one.
The Seasiders made several changes just after the hour mark, and almost got an immediate award.
A bit of space opened up for Kylian Kouassi to run into, with an impressive challenge from Marcel Oakley stopping the forward from releasing a shot. The ball then landed at the feet of Dion Charles - who saw his attempt saved by Winterbottom.
The Huddersfield Town loanee was hit with a blow shortly after - exiting the action just 12 minutes due to injury.
Heading into the closing stages, Cameron doubled the Bluebirds lead, with a glancing heading from a Ben Whitfield cross beating substitute goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli.
The forward almost bagged a second, placing an attempt on the half volley just wide after seeing the Argentine off his line.
