Blackpool 1-1 Blackburn Rovers: Behind-closed-doors contest at Bloomfield Road ends in a draw

A behind-closed-doors friendly between Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers ended in a 1-1 draw.

Blackpool drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Bloomfield Road.

The fixture saw Olly Casey pick up his first minutes of pre-season, while George Honeyman returned to action after being forced off with a minor problem in the Seasiders’ meeting with AFC Fylde at the start of the month.

Ryoya Morishita opened the scoring for the visitors, before Niall Ennis pulled Ian Evatt’s side level after the break.

A couple of early chances came the way of Blackburn’s Yuki Ohashi, with one attempt blocked by Zac Ashworth in the box and the other put over the crossbar from close-range after a dangerous Ryan Alebiosu cross from the left.

Following attempts from both Dale Taylor and Ennis up front, Karoy Anderson had Blackpool’s first real opportunity.

The ball landed perfectly for the midfielder to shoot first-time, but his effort was dragged just wide of the target.

Blackburn edged their way in front on the half hour mark. A bit of space opened up for Morishita - who was able to slot a shot past Bailey Peacock-Farrell from the edge of the box.

The Seasiders should’ve equalised immediately. An attempt from Josh Bowler was parried by Balazs Toth, but Ennis was unable to beat the Rovers keeper on the rebound.

A few minutes later, the Hungarian was called into action again.

Blackpool were able to regain possession high up the field with a strong press, with Bowler shot from the edge of the box being pushed away.

Toth was also able to deny Jordan Brown - who saw a free kick saved down low by the 28-year-old.

Down the other end, Peacock-Farrell was also required to make another save, pushing a Moussa Baradji effort away from danger.

The equaliser came six minutes after the restart. A ball over the top flicked on by CJ Hamilton was met by Ennis - who smashed the ball home past substitute goalkeeper Aynsley Pears at the front post.

Shortly after, the forward could’ve had a second, but pulled an attempt wide of the target on the turn.

Following a complete XI from Blackburn at the break, the Seasiders made their alterations on the hour mark.

Oluchi Nwankwo was introduced at half time as Casey’s replacement, but was forced off after 18 minutes due to injury.

Fellow teenager Oli Hunter was called upon to replace him, with several other changes being made by Evatt as things progressed.

A couple of chances fell the way of Dapo Afolayan on the edge of the Blackpool box. The attacker saw one attempt blocked and another pulled wide of the target, as the game finished level.
