Blackpool FC unveil a special shirt to help BFCCT’s cancer prehab and rehab projects

Blackpool FC and Blackpool FC Community Trust have teamed up to help raise funds for cancer projects.

Blackpool FC has launched a special pink retro shirt to raise funds and awareness for the cancer prehab and rehab work delivered by Blackpool FC Community Trust (BFCCT).

Breast Cancer Awareness Month runs throughout October and, for each shirt sold, the Seasiders will be making a donation to the Trust’s cancer prehab and rehab projects.

These projects support people affected by cancer through exercise, social connection and peer support.

Sessions take place at Bloomfield Road every Wednesday (3pm-5pm), supporting people before and during cancer treatment as well as those recovering afterwards.

The programme helps participants build physical strength, improve their wellbeing and connect with others who understand what they are going through.

BFCCT said: “Improving fitness before treatment can help reduce the risk of complications, lessen treatment side effects and support recovery.

“Just as importantly, the sessions provide a friendly, relaxed space where people can share experiences, access support and feel less alone during an incredibly difficult time.

“By offering rehabilitation alongside prehabilitation, BFCCT can continue supporting people beyond treatment, helping them rebuild confidence, stay active and improve their quality of life.

“BFCCT is here to help people find strength, support and community when they need it most.”

One of the BFCCT community is Lesley, who first joined in 2021 through a 10-week fitness programme.

She lost more than 15kg and became a regular at classes three or four times a week, as staying active helped with her own cancer journey.

“The work the Community Trust do with cancer patients is really important,” Lesley said.

“Being able to talk to others that are going through it can help massively mentally, as you don’t always want to talk to your family when you are going through treatment programmes.

“It’s a fantastic provision and this shirt is a touch of femininity to quite a masculine sport.”

Further information about BFCCT’s cancer prehab and rehab project is available through their website.

The shirts, which are £45 each, come in sizes from S to XXXL and can be bought online.
