Owners of popular Ego restaurant in Lytham issue new statement addressing shocking closure rumours

“This decision has been taken after careful consideration and as part of the continual review of our estate.”

One of the Fylde coast’s most popular restaurants will be closing its doors permanently in November after a period of ‘careful consideration’ and ‘continual review’.

Ego in Lytham will officially close on Wednesday 18 November, its owners have confirmed. The popular, family-friendly restaurant has been open for over 17 years and has established itself as a firm favourite for many diners across the Fylde coast.

Ego’s owners Mitchells and Butlers told the Gazette that the lease on the venue was up for renewal, and following careful consideration, the decision had been made to shut the restaurant.

They also confirmed that staff would be redeployed to other businesses within their portfolio. Mitchells & Butlers owns several restaurant chains across the UK, including Miller & Carter, Toby Carvery, Stonehouse and Harvester.

"We can confirm that Ego Lytham will close on November 18th. This decision has been taken after careful consideration and as part of the continual review of our estate,” A spokesperson told the Gazette.

"We are in consultation with the team and hope to redeploy as many employees as possible at our other nearby businesses. We are working with all our guests who made bookings to try and find suitable alternative options at other venues within the Mitchells and Butlers estate.

"Our other 31 Ego Restaurants will continue to trade as normal, including the Ego Little Hoole, which is around 17 miles away from Lytham."

Ego’s Mediterranean-themed menu includes an array of steaks, kebabs, seafood, pizzas, pastas and paellas, alongside cocktails and other drinks. The Lytham venue- which is located in the former B&M Bargains site on Pleasant Street- boasts an outdoor terrace as well as a large dining area indoors.

The future of the building remains uncertain, with the premises not currently listed for sale or to let. Rumours on social media have suggested that the venue will probably remain as a restaurant.
