Police investigate shop fire in Kirkham town centre

A police investigation is under way after a shop fire in Kirkham town centre yesterday evening (Monday, April 26).

Fire crews from Wesham, Lytham and Blackpool tackled the fire in Poulton Street at 9.30pm, where the wooden fascia of a shop had caught fire.

Crews were at the scene for around two hours and brought the fire under control using hose reels and a triple extension ladder.

After extinguishing the fire and making the scene safe, firefighters reported their concerns about what caused the fire to police.

Lancashire Police confirmed that it is investigating the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

A fire service spokesman said: "Wesham, Lytham, South Shore and Blackpool fire crews attended a fire on Poulton Street in Kirkham.

"The fire involved a wooden fascia of a commercial premises. Crews quickly brought the fire under control using a hose reel and triple extension ladder.

"Crews also used breathing apparatus and a fan to clear smoke and make the scene safe.

"The cause of the fire is now under a joint investigation alongside Lancashire Police. Firefighters were in attendance around two hours."
