Lancashire Day: Plane hired to fly across entire county and here is where and when you can see it

It may be harder to get together and celebrate Lancashire Day today.

Friday, 27th November 2020, 7:00 am

But the day’s organisers, the Friends of Real Lancashire, have reaching for the skies when dreaming up this year’s celebration of all things Red Rose.

They’ve hired an aircraft to trail a banner to fly over large swatches of the historic county borders.

The plane will start its journey in Blackpool at 9am, making its way over Preston, Chorley, Garstang, Fleetwood, Manchester, and Wigan, before returning to Blackpool at around noon.

It's Lancashire Day today!

Group chairman Philip Walsh said: “Since 1996, Friends of Real Lancashire has been at the forefront of co-ordinating events throughout Lancashire. We have had town criers out in the county shouting the Lancashire Day proclamation; there have been hot pot supers; folk and dialect events; dinners and charity fund raisers.

“We have also distributed Eccles Cakes to food banks. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, events have been curtailed somewhat so we have decided to take to the skies.”

The group has also set up a competition asking residents to send in their photos of the plane and banner when they spot it.

To enter the competition on social media, send to #FORL or by email to [email protected]

Meanwhile, Marketing Lancashire is dedicating its social medial channels to celebrating Red Rose and is hoping to get the hashtag #LancashireDay trending.
