Mcdonald's staff in Fleetwood and Cleveleys help raise more than £16,000 for Ronald McDonald House
As part of the fundraising, employees took part in three sponsored litter walks, with 57 volunteers covering 18 miles and collecting 54 bags of rubbish.
McDonald’s crew members across the Fylde coast and wider Lancashire have come together throughout September to support Ronald McDonald House raising more than £16,000.
As part of the fundraising, employees took part in three sponsored litter walks, with 57 volunteers covering 18 miles and collecting 54 bags of rubbish.
The community efforts began on September 10, where nine crew members from Cleveleys and Fleetwood McDonald’s restaurants took part in the Great Northwest Clean up. Starting in Cleveleys town centre, the team worked their way along the promenade towards Anchorsholme before looping back to their starting point.
Crews were back out in their local communities on September 23, with two further litter picks taking place across Lancashire. 20 crew members from Chorley Tesco, Leyland, Clayton Green & Capitol Centre McDonald’s restaurants walked an impressive 10 miles and smashed over 25,000 steps.
Meanwhile, in Preston, 28 volunteers, including Lancashire police officers and charity representatives, came together to tackle litter across the town centre. Crew members from Friargate, Deepdale, Lytham, Fishergate and Fulwood Asda McDonald’s covered a four-mile route.

Alongside the litter picks, the restaurants raised money through Just Giving sponsorship pages, fundraising activities and McHappy Day, helping to contribute to the £16,290 total.
Nigel Dunnington, McDonald’s franchisee, who owns and operates 16 restaurants across Lancashire, and coordinated the initiatives, said: “I am absolutely blown away by the incredible effort of our teams across Lancashire.
“Walking 18 miles and collecting litter for up to five hours is a massive physical challenge, but our crew took it completely in their stride. These initiatives perfectly capture the heart of what we do and our commitment to the communities we serve, and I’m so glad we were able to raise money for a great charity. Thank you to everyone who took part.”
The funds raised from the events will go towards supporting Ronald McDonald House, a charity that provides free “home away from home” accommodation for families with children in hospitals. By offering a place to stay close to their child, the charity helps families maintain comfort and stability during challenging times.
For more than 35 years, McDonald’s crew members have been actively helping to keep local communities’ litter free. Across the UK, our restaurant teams carry out three litter patrols every day around each restaurant, collecting all litter in the surrounding area, not just McDonald’s packaging. Together, this covers around 5,000 miles each week.
McDonald’s addresses litter in communities in multiple ways, both by organising regular litter picks and by ensuring our packaging can be recycled. As part of its mission, the brand has been working to make recycling easier, and has installed recycling units in all restaurants, making it easier to separate plastics.
In addition, McDonald’s collects used cooking oil from its kitchens and converts it into enough biodiesel to power more than half of its delivery fleet.
