I’m a YouTuber who spent a day in Fleetwood for £2.50 and found hidden gems everywhere
Popular YouTubers James and Helen from By The Curb explore Fleetwood, uncovering the town’s maritime history, local lighthouses and hidden culinary gems.
Fleetwood might seem like a quiet seaside town, but for vloggers James and Helen of By The Curb, it offered plenty of adventure.
Starting at a local park overlooking the beach, the pair noted the crisp winter air and the town’s £7.50 overnight parking, before setting out to explore Fleetwood’s streets, lighthouses, and historic sites.
James said: "There’s three lighthouses in Fleetwood… one’s even in the middle of a roundabout! Everything’s designed perfectly, like a wheel shape. I love it."
The couple delved into the town’s origins, recounting how Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood transformed barren land in the 1830s into a transport hub, connecting London travelers to Scotland via steamboat.

James said: "It was just barren land… then Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood had this idea to make it a transport hub. Trains to here, steamboats to Scotland-brilliant idea… but it only lasted seven years!"
Though the plan faltered after a new railway line opened, Fleetwood prospered as a fishing port, supplying the Northwest’s seafood until 1981.
The vloggers admired landmarks such as the North Houston Hotel and Pharaoh Lighthouse, highlighting Fleetwood’s rich architectural heritage.
Food and local hospitality also featured prominently. At the family-run One More Oriental Beastro, James and Helen shared a mix of Malaysian and Chinese dishes, praising both the quality and the friendly service.
Helen said: "One More Oriental Beastro… it was fantastic. Honestly, we didn’t expect it to be this good. Family-run, amazing food, we’ll definitely be back."
Even a £2.50 ferry ride across the River Wyre added to the charm, offering unique views of the bay.
James said: "That was the most fun £2.50 we’ve ever spent. Honestly, it might be the shortest cruise ever, but it was brilliant!"
Despite signs of economic decline in some areas, Fleetwood’s combination of history, coastal beauty, and community spirit impressed the vloggers.
Their candid footage - complete with casual chats with locals, pub visits, and scenic walks - paints Fleetwood as a town with stories to tell and hidden experiences for visitors willing to explore beyond the promenade.
James said: "We’ve met some really friendly people… bumping into subscribers and locals-it makes you feel part of the town.
"We just love discovering places like this… quiet streets, hidden gems, a bit of history-it’s the kind of town you don’t expect to love, but you do."
