The owner of a kennels and cattery devastated by fire last night said her ‘whole world has been turned upside down.’

The fire broke out a Fur Cottage Kennels and Cattery in Greenhalgh in the early hours of this morning, leaving the family terrified but thankfully, safe - as are all the animals.

Owner Danielle Hoy told The Gazette: "We are absolutely devastated and very lucky that we all got out alive. It started in our nine-year-old’s bedroom then down to the kitchen.

“Thankfully we all got out safe but it was truly terrifying for us. My world has been turned upside down.

“All animals in the kennels and cattery are safe. I'm doing everything I can to keep the business running."

She has been forced to close the day care side of the business today and has received an outpouring of support from kind-hearted people, responding to an announcement on the centre’s Facebook page.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue were called to tackle the fire with three fire engines from Blackpool, Wesham and South Shore stations in attendance to bring the blaze under control.

They were there for more than two hours.

Danielle said: "We have a log burner as we don’t have gas down our road, so we have a multi burner to feed the radiators - that could have been the cause of the fire. The phone lines are all down and we have no electricity or water.

A statement from LFRS said: "At 01:34, three fire engines from Blackpool, Wesham and South Shore attended a building fire on Fleetwood Old Road, Greenhalgh with Thistleton. Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and chimney rods to extinguish the fire.

“Crews were in attendance for around two hours and 20 minutes."
