Plans for new ATM in Blackpool town centre refused - here's why
The plans would ‘detract from the appearance, character and quality of this building and the surroundings.’
Plans to install a new ATM and a large illuminated sign at the Tram Station View on Talbot Road have been rejected by Blackpool Council, who described the scheme as ‘visual clutter’.
The proposed ATM and sign would have been installed on the shopfront of Tramway Convenience Store, which has been open since 2024.
Blackpool Council refused the two separate applications earlier this week after deciding that the ATM and related sign would create ‘visual clutter and exacerbate the cluttered appearance of the existing shop frontage.’

Applicant Natalie Gaunt argued that the ATM would be a positive addition to the area, benefitting from high levels of foot traffic and a number of existing security and CCTV networks.
But Head of Development Manager S Parker believed that the plans would ‘detract from the appearance, character and quality of this building and the surroundings.’
The applicant now has 8 weeks to lodge an appeal against the refused sign, and 6 months against the refused ATM.
