'Flooding possible' - Environment Agency issues flood alert on Flyde coast with high tide warning

Flood alert issued for Ribble estuary, including parts of Fylde

The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert for the Ribble estuary west of Preston, including parts of Fylde, with flooding possible around high tide.

High spring tides, strong waves and a storm surge mean low-lying land, roads and coastal paths could be affected.

The risk of flooding is expected to be particularly high around high tide, late this morning and again late tonight.

People are being urged to take care near the coast and estuary around high tide, and to keep well back from promenades and sea walls.

The Environment Agency has also warned people never to walk or drive through flood water.
