James Smith, 29, criminal damage

A man who lives on a caravan park smashed a car window as members of his family drove away from the site.

James Smith, 29, of Marton Mere, Mythop Road, Blackpool, threw a wooden chair at the vehicle containing two adults and three children.

Smith admittted criminal damage to the value of £200.

He also admitted the theft of £57 f alcohol from the site shop and resisting arrest

He was given an eight week jail term suspended for a year. He must pay £200 compensation.

His lawyer Patrick Nelligan told magistrates: “This man had a successful career working offshore in the safety industry.”

Suzanne Horner, 42, drink-driving

Police who described a woman as making a dangerous overtake on Blackpool Promenade found she was over the alcohol limit.

Suzanne Horner, a former care worker, 42, of Cumberland Avenue, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

She was banned from the road for 14 months, fined £120 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £32 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Paul Huxley, said police saw Horner in a Mini in the Promenade, on February 29, at about midnight, and described her as committing a dangerous overtake.

She was stopped and an officer smelt alcohol on her. A breath test showed 55 microgrammes of alcohol in her body - 35 is the limit.

Suzanne Mugford, defending, said Horner had been at her partner’s and although she did not normally drink wine she drank two glasses of wine with lemonade.

There was then a disagreement with her partner and she felt she must leave.

Horner had previously been a full-time care worker in the community working particularly with children in crisis.She had given up that job to help care for her father and drive him to hospital

which she would no longer be able to do.

Christopher Taylor, 34, burglary

A man has made his first appearance at court accused of burgling a Blackpool shop and stealing £32,000 of mobile phones.

Christopher Taylor, 34, of Ranelagh Road, Swinton, Manchester, is charged with burgling the Vodaphone shop, Victoria Street, on July 27 2018.

Prosecutor, Paul Huxley, asked for the case to be heard at crown court. Taylor did not indicate a plea to the offence at that stage.

He was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on April 15.

Mark Dowling, 30, assault

A 30-year-old man has appeared at court charged with biting a police officer’s leg drawing blood.

Mark Dowling of Sandown Court, Preston, is alleged to have carried out the assault during an incident when police were trying to arrest him in Cleveleys.

Dowling is charged with causing the officer actual bodily harm.

He is further charged with racially aggravated behaviour to police officers and using abusive words to the police.

He is also charged with obstructing the police and a police assault.

Dowling appeared before Blackpool Magistrates who were told by defence lawyer Martin Hillson that his client denied the biting allegation. Dowling was refused bail.

Ricky Lee Stewart, 22, assault

A 22 –year-old Blackpool man has been remanded in custody charged with assaulting a police officer and a paramedic.

Ricky Lee Stewart, 22, of Buchanan Street also faces two allegations of breaching his bail terms.

Stewart was remanded in custody by Magistrates until March 27 so that pre sentence reports can be prepared on him by the probation service.

James Yoemans, 23, breach of bail

A man has admitted breaching bail and the term of post sentence supervision.

James Yeomans, 23, of Rodwell Walk was jailed for seven days by Blackpool Magistrates. The court heard Yeomans had shown a “lack of compliance” and at one stage left the probation office swearing at staff.
