
David Dara, 28, of no fixed address, was charged last night with rape and will appear before magistrates in the town tomorrow.
Police launched an enquiry after a 20-year-old woman was approached by a man and taken into an alleyway off Hopton Road at the side of the Home Bargains Store on Tyldesley Road in South Shore before she was raped.
The incident happened at about 10.30pm on Thursday, April 23.
A 19-year-old local man who had been arrested in connection with the enquiry has been released without charge.
