Coroner sparks 10-day probe into murder of Blackpool dad killed by jilted ex-boyfriend of teen daughter

Domestic Homicide Review into case to be completed shortly, pre-inquest review hears

Ten days have been allocated for an inquest into the death of a Blackpool dad who died a hero as he tried to protect his teenage daughter.

Mark Webster, 50, was stabbed 12 times in the chest and abdomen by 18-year-old Levi Westhead in July 2021 after showing up at Mr Webster’s Blackpool home and demanding to see his 16-year-old daughter.

Westhead was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 17 years.

It was said at his trail at Preston Crown Court that the obsessed teenager had been in a rocky relationship with the girl for about 18 months, during which time he had bombarded her with abusive text messages and told her to kill herself.

On the evening of July 23 2021, he armed himself with a knife and tried to force his way into her house with the intention of threatening her. But Mr Webster, 50, refused to let him in.

At Westhead’s sentencing, Mr Webster, known as Web, was praised as 'a true man and a true hero', who was trying to protect his daughter from an 'evil, controlling, harassing' boy.

A pre-inquest review at Blackpool Town Hall heard that a Domestic Homicide Report into Mr Webster’s murder was nearing completion and Blackpool and Fylde assistant coroner Timothy Holloway said that once that was received, he would finalise his list of witness.

Ten days are to be allocated to the inquest, likely to be held at some stage next year, but ahead of that a further pre-inquest review of progress in the coroner’s investigation has been set for Monday, February 22.
