Coastguard update after 75-year-old rescued from tide with broken hip
HM Coastguard Lytham have provided an update after rescuing a 75-year-old casualty with a suspected broken hip yesterday afternoon.
The Coastguard crew was scrambled to the beach just off Starr Gate at around 4pm yesterday following reports that an elderly person was injured on the sand with the tide rapidly approaching.
After liaising with other emergency service crews, the coastguard team stretchered the injured pensioner off the beach and into an ambulance.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Lytham said that the job was ‘important’ and that ‘great teamwork’ helped to save the casualty: “These jobs aren't the big, attention grabbing, jazzy, time pressured water rescues that people often think of with the coastguard, but they're still very important .

“The paramedics themselves said when we arrived, ‘we were thinking, we're not sure how we're going to get the casualty moved with the two of us, and then you guys appeared.’
“It's great to work with other emergency service agencies and share information. They now have a better understanding of us and our equipment, and we got to see and use some of theirs! Great teamwork from everyone involved.”
