By-election set for Blackpool's Claremont following death of UK's longest-serving councillor Ivan Taylor
Blackpool Council is set to release details of the by-election in the near future.
A by-election is set to be held in Blackpool’s Claremont ward following the death of popular councillor Ivan Taylor last month.
Ivan was confirmed as being the UK’s longest-serving councillor in June after almost 60 years of serving his community in the resort.

Sadly the Labour councillor passed away last month aged 86, prompting a host of warm tributes to the former mayor, who also led Blackpool Council as it became a unitary authority, oversaw the roll out of Sure Start centres, and set up the town’s first publicly run leisure centre.
A packed funeral service was held at Blackpool’s Salvation Army Citadel on August 7.
Ivan’s passing leaves a vacant seat in the ward of Claremont, which encompasses key thoroughfares such as Dickson Road, Claremont Road and parts of Talbot Road.
The other ward’s other seat is held by Labour member and council leader, Cllr Lynn Williams.
