I've gone viral for sending myself a birthday card - here's why

A Blackpool mum has gone viral on TikTok after buying her own birthday card and posting it through her daughter’s front door to make sure it arrives safely.

In a moment that has captured the attention of TikTok users a Blackpool mother has gone viral for taking birthday celebrations into her own hands - literally.

Julie Ann Highley, whose birthday is in July, bought herself a birthday card she particularly liked and decided to post it through her daughter’s letterbox to ensure it got delivered safely.

Julie works as a manager at Larder coffee shops owned by her daughter Amy.

The video, shared on TikTok by her daughter has racked up more than 20,000 views with viewers quickly charmed by the mum’s playful initiative.

As her daughter recounted, her mother spent over an hour browsing cards before choosing the perfect one, then took the unusual step of handing it in person via the front door - ahead of time.

The post has struck a chord online, with many people sharing similar stories of quirky family moments. The phrase “mad as a box of frogs,” used by the daughter, perfectly sums up the light-hearted chaos of the incident.

Julie’s playful approach to birthdays, combined with the creativity of posting the card herself, highlights the unique bonds and humour that can exist between parents and children.

Her daughter, Katie Highley, a Welfare Producer, said: “Last Sunday, my mum spotted a birthday card she really liked and decided to buy it for herself.

“Even though my birthday isn’t until July, she posted it through my front door so I could keep it until then.

“I couldn’t believe what she was doing - she even spent over an hour looking at cards before choosing that one.

“She’s always been playful and close-knit, and this just shows her quirky sense of humour. It’s mad, but we all love her for it.”

The TikTok video continues to gain attention, with viewers enjoying the mum’s eccentric charm and celebrating the relatable humour in her unconventional birthday planning.
