Blackpool-born Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson has opened up about the life-saving CPR she and her family performed on her mother after she suffered two cardiac arrests in 2021.
The actress, known for playing Candice Stowe in Coronation Street, Dawn Bellamy in Heartbeat and Maxine Minniver in Hollyoaks, shared the experience on Instagram as she highlighted the importance of learning CPR and breaking down barriers that can prevent people from stepping in during an emergency.
Nikki revealed that she and her family had to perform CPR until paramedics arrived, explaining that acting quickly was crucial to her mother's survival.

Posting on Instagram, she said: “In 2021, my mum suffered two cardiac arrests and we had to perform CPR until the paramedics arrived. If we’d hesitated, she wouldn't be here today. That’s why this campaign means so much to me.
“It’s upsetting that so many people are less likely to step in and help a woman in public because understandably, they’re worried about doing the wrong thing, exposing her chest, or being filmed and shared online.
“When someone’s heart stops, every second counts. We need to break down these barriers and bust the taboo around giving CPR, because gender should never affect someone’s chance of survival. Everyone deserves an equal chance to receive lifesaving help.Support the cause today, learn CPR, save a life.”
